The 1794-OA16, a digital Alternating Current (AC) I/O module from the Allen-Bradley family of Flex I/O type automation products, is manufactured by Rockwell Automation Inc. This I/O module houses the bus interface and circuitry needed to interface the programmable controller with field devices such as pushbuttons, limit switches, on/off actuators and relay contacts, etc. The module can provide up to 16 non-isolated Alternating Current (AC) Voltage outputs simultaneously in a compact and modular form factor offering reliability and flexibility for distributed I/O systems.

The 1794-OA16 digital Flex I/O module interfaces programmable controllers having block transfer capability with field devices through block transfer programming. The I/O module receives data and configuration from the processor data table through Block Transfer Write (BTW) instruction. The processor user program initiates the request for data transfer from the processor to the module. The module then provides up to 16 outputs based on the data configurations from the processor. Each output provides an Alternating Current-voltage (VAC) ranging from 74 Volts to 132 Volts and the Alternating Current (AC) per output can be as low as 5 milliamperes (mA) to 500milliamperes (mA)maximum. The nominal voltage per output is 120 Volts Alternating Current (VAC) under normal operating conditions.

The module is capable of providing up to a total of 4 Amperes Alternating Current (AAC) output through all 16 outputs. The output signals can delay up to ½ of a cycle during the module goes off to on and on to off. The main components of the 1794-OA16 I/O module are label identifiers, the key switch position indicator, and sixteen status indicators. The removable labels provide space for writing individual designations to each output as per application. The module has a yellow status indicator for each channel. These indicators are driven from the logic-side circuitry. The module requires a terminal base unit to install and connect to the distributed I/O system. The required wiring is done to that terminal base to power up the module and to collect output signals. Supported terminal bases include Allen-Bradley 1794-TBN, 1794-TBNF, 1794-TB2, 1794-TB3S, 1794-TBKD, 1794-TBNK, 1794-TB3K, and 1794-TB3SK.
