Description
The Allen-Bradley 1734-TOP module base is a versatile and durable option for your industrial automation needs. This module base is specifically designed to work with Allen-Bradley’s 1734 series of Input/Output (I/O) modules, providing a secure and stable platform for your I/O signals. The base features a compact design that allows for maximum use of panel space, while its rugged construction ensures reliable performance in harsh industrial environments.
The 1734-TOP is easy to install and provides simple and efficient wiring options with screw-terminal connections. The base is compatible with DIN rail and panel mount installations, allowing you to choose the best mounting option for your specific application.
Here are the technical specifications for the Allen-Bradley 1734-TOP module base:
- Terminal Connection Type: 8 Screw Terminal (One-piece base)
- Terminal Connection Rating: 22-14 AWG
- Operating Temperature Range: -20°C to 55°C (-4°F to 131°F)
- Storage Temperature Range: -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F)
- Relative Humidity: 5% to 95% (non-condensing)
- Shock resistance: 30g
- Mounting Type: DIN Rail or Panel Mount
- Material: Thermoplastic
- Dimensions: 49 mm x 12 mm x 144 mm (1.93 in x 0.47 in x 5.67 in)
1734-TOP has a wide range of applications in industrial automation because it provides wiring of digital input/output/relay modules, analog input/output modules, and specialty modules. The mechanical keying of the terminal base prevents incorrect module placement. While the POINT I/O system implements a No-Tools design, providing a smooth assembly process to set up the I/O module with the terminal base without using any tools.
This terminal has a wire size of 0.25 or 2.5 mm (that is 22 to 14 AWG), a screw torque of 0.6 Nm (7 pound-inch), while its supply voltage has a maximum of 300 Volts, its terminal current a maximum of 8A, and a field power bus supply voltage ranging from 28.8 Volts DC to 120 or 240 Volts AC.

To begin the installation of the 1734-TOP module, vertically position the base above any existing units (adapter, existing modules or power supply), and slide the base down to allow it to interlock with the terminal’s side pieces and engage the units directly on either side. Finally, press the module firmly down to seat it onto the DIN rail until it snaps into place. Its locking screw should be kept horizontal and in a “locked” position prior to the insertion of an I/O module.
The POINT I/O is grounded through the DIN rail to the chassis ground. Use a zinc plated yellow-chromate steel DIN rail to ensure proper grounding. The single terminal pins are designated with the numbers 0 to 7 and the connections are determined by the I/O module being used. Any single terminal pin should not have more than 2 conductors wired to it.
The POINT I/O modules that can be used with the Allen-Bradley 1734-TOP terminal base are as follows (with the mechanical keying number in parenthesis): (1) 1734-IB2,1734-IB4, 1734-IB8, 1734-IV2, 1734-IV4, 1734-IV8, 1734-OB2, 1734-OB4, 1734-OB8, 1734-OB2E, 1734-OB4E, 1734-OB8E, 1734-OB2EP, 1734-OV2E, 1734-OV4E, 1734-OV8E; (3) 1734-IE2C, 1734-IE2V; (4) 1734-OE2C, 1734-OE2V; (5) 1734-CTM, 1734-VTM; (7) 1734-OW2, 1734-OW4, 1734-OX2; (8) 1734-IA2, 1734-IA4, 1734-IM2, 1734-IM4, 1734-OA2, 1734-OA4.
