The Allen-Bradley 1786-RPA is a ControlNet Modular Repeater Adapter. This module is a ControlNet communication network accessory that is primarily used to extend the length of a ControlNet network as well as assemble different topologies such as Star, Ring, Linear or Point-to-Point topology. This repeater module may also be used when physically converting ControlNet cable medium from Coaxial cable to Fiber Optic and Fiber Optic to ControlNet coax cable.
ControlNet network is an industrial communication protocol which is used for multi-drop communication of devices. These devices can be a mix of ControlNet client modules, Controllers, Visualization systems and gateways. ControlNet network is composed of a main communication highway called as Trunk where devices or Nodes connect via ControlNet taps. ControlNet network supports up to 1000 m of distance. If the network exceeds this maximum distance, the 1786-RPA may be used.
The 1786-RPA is compatible for use with 1786-RPCD repeater dual-copper module, 1786-RPFS repeater short-distance fiber module, 1786-RPFM repeater medium-distance fiber module, 1786-RPFRL fiber ring repeater module, and 1786-RPFRXL fiber ring repeater module. The maximum allowable adapters connected in series is 20 1786- RPA.
This repeater adapter module supports direct mounting to a mounting plate or with the use of a DIN rail. Direct panel mounting offers an increased resistance to vibration and shock compared to DIN Rail mounting. This module supports horizontal or vertical orientation and powered by an external voltage supply range of 18-36VDC.
This repeater adapter module is provided with One (1) removable terminal block for input power connections, One (1) 75 ohm terminating resistor and Two (2) DIN rail locks.
The 1786-RPAB repeater adapter requires 24 Volt DC input power. At 5 VDC, it can provide a maximum of 1.6 A of backplane output current. The Allen-Bradley 1786-RPAB repeater adapter serves different functions, such as extending the network’s length, performing network media conversions from coaxial or copper media to fiber media, as well as the opposite way from fiber media to coaxial or copper media, providing power to the repeater modules, and for the creation of a ring, star, or point-to-point topology.
Both the repeater adapters and repeater modules are equipped with 2 status indicators such as Ready and Fault, which indicates powered up fault state, respectively. The entire 1786-RPA repeater adapter has an approximate measurement of 4 x 4 x 3 inches, or 10 x 10 x 8 centimeters, and it weighs around 7 ounces or 0.20 kilograms. This Series B repeater adapter is also known as model number 1786-RPA/B.
