Description

The Allen-Bradley 1734-232ASC is a POINT I/O communication interface module that functions as an ASCII communication module. It is typically used to interface barcode readers in the Point of Sale (POS) or within the manufacturing line to implement automated sorting and quality assurance systems. The module has an RS232 interface that supports 9600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 19.2k, and 38.4k communication speeds.

The module is mounted to a wiring base assembly such as 1734-TB or -TBS w and has a backplane or PointBus current draw of 75mA @ 5V dc, power dissipation of 0.75W maximum @ 28.8V dc, and Thermal Dissipation of 2.5 BTU/hr maximum @ 28.8V dc. The module operates when wired to an external power supply voltage that provides a 10-28.8VDC voltage range with a nominal supply voltage of 24 VDC. It requires a supply current of 15mA @ 24V dc with integrated fault protection rated at 28.8 VDC.

The 1734-232ASC serial parameters include character framing of 7N2, 7E1, 7O1, 8N1, 8N2, 8E1, 8O1, 7E2, and 7O2. The serial port received from ASCII device has a maximum number of 128 characters; Receive record start mode settings of No, exclude, include start delimiter; Receive Start Delimiter settings of ASCII character; Receive Record End Mode of No, exclude, include end delimiter, and Receive End Delimiter of ASCII character.

The 1734-232ASC comes with One (1) green/red module status indicator, One (1) green/red network status indicator, and Two (2) green TXD, RXD status indicators.

The module is compatible for use with 1734-TB or -TBS wiring base assembly, and when mounting to the mentioned terminal bases, the appropriate keyswitch position is 2. It is suitable for applications where flexibility and low cost are important for system design and operation.
